WEST INDIES v SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka : 303 for 5 ( ST Jayasuriya 115, DPMD Jaywardene 82 )
West Indies : 190 ( S Chanderpaul 76, RR Sarwan 44 )
Sri Lanka won by 113 runs
The new Providence Stadium provided the first sell-out attendance of the tournament, and they were treated to a thoroughly focussed performance from the Sri Lankans. The veteran Jayasuriya began with uncharacteristic circumspection but later, during a partnership of 183 with captain Jayawardene, batted with typical flourish to record yet another outstanding century. In reply the West Indies were hampered as much by their own lack of purpose as by the all round accuracy of the Sri Lankan bowling, and inspite of determined contributions by Chanderpaul and Sarwan, both Guyanese and favourites of the spectators, they surrendered well short of their target.
