THE ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2007 SEMI-FINAL
AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa : 149 ( JM Kemp 49, SW Tait 4/39, GD McGrath 3/18 )
Australia : 153 for 3 (MJ Clarke 60*, ML Hayden 41 )
Australia won by 7 wickets.
South Africa's quest for the Final was undermined too early in their innings by injudicious shot selections. Four other frontline batsmen, under pressure, succumbed for a total of 8 runs. Within ten overs Bracken, Tait and McGrath had effectively ended the contest. The attempted rescue act from Kemp merely delayed the inevitable. Australia blended discipline with aggression in navigating their path to predictable victory. For non-partisan supporters it was not an entertaining spectacle, but it demonstrated to all the ruthlessness of Australian teamwork, and their superiority throughout the tournament.
Man of the Match : Glen McGrath
